2013 Huntington Beach Disc Golf Championships (C-tier), Central Park, Huntington Beach - Sat/Sun, Jan. 12/13, 2013 - Huntington Beach returns to the SoCal and PDGA schedules! Ice Bowl in Paradise (C-tier), Chavez Ridge DGC, Los Angeles – Sat., Jan. 19, 2013 – Ice Bowl tournaments are held all across the U.S. in January and February, raising funds and awareness for local food banks and other social service charities. The Chavez Ice Bowl has kicked off the SoCal Points Series for the last several years and is also part of the Golden Sombrero Series of Ice Bowls. Wintertime Open (Am weekend, B-tier), Oak Grove DGC, La Canada – Sat/Sun Feb. 9-10, 2013. The Wintertime Open is the longest-running disc golf tournament in Southern California and probably the west coast. A great chance to play Oak Grove in its tournament set-up. Glen Helen Throwdown (C-tier), Glen Helen Regional Park, San Bernardino – Sat March 30, 2013. It’s the first-ever PDGA event held at Glen Helen!!! 1-day, 2 rounds, 72 players. April:
Sylmar Open (C-tier), Veterans Park, Sylmar – Sat, April 13. Ironman TD Gary Sandoval is back, with a 1-day 3-round tournament on the red, white and blue baskets at Sylmar. Sign up early, cuz Gary has added a $20 late fee for registration after Wednesday of tourney week (and there’s no whining or excuses allowed!). San Diego Fling (Ams-only, B-tier), Morley Field, San Diego – Sat April 20, 2013. Morley Field is the most-played disc golf course in the world and home to many fine players. Always a great Am field. San Diego Fling (Pros-only, B-tier), Kit Carson Park DGC, Escondido – Sun April 21, 2013. Last year’s Pro Spring Fling was part of the Steady Ed Series and was contested on a lengthened layout of the popular Kit Carson course. The Challenge @ Goat Hill (B-tier), Center City Golf Course @ Goat Hill, Oceanside – Sat/Sun, May 4/5, 2013. The good news: We get the Goat all to ourselves for 2 days this year! Bad news: No carts. One round per day means the field can be really big. Final 4 Doubles Skins Challenge after 2nd round – $100 per hole – 4 Pros team up with 4 raffle winners! If there are any other Junior division players wanting to come out Cory has said he would open up the division if he gets enough respondents. / January 8, 2013Thank for pointing out that we missed including NorCal/SoCal on the Upcoming Events listing – we’ll update the schedule. It is being held Jan. 26/27 at Waller Pines in Santa Maria, as it is every year. Team Captain Mike Byrne (discfever@aol.com) is in charge of assembling the team, using the points series standings as a guide. We expect to have a story on the website after the event has occurred, just like last year (http://wp.me/p20xl7-2t).
