PDGA Worlds 2012 in Charotte, NC was an amazing experience! Over 1,100 disc golfers competing, loads of volunteers, sponsors, spectators and all-around hospitable Charlottians (or whatever you call them. And there was the heat – 95 to 98 degrees each day with 90-95+% humidity. And the tight courses (can you say “Angry Beaver”?).
But one thing is for certain. The best disc golf played in Charlotte last week was played by SoCal disc golfer Paul McBeth (of Huntington Beach), who blistered the bark off the trees on his way to a 5-shot win in the Open Pro division. The “McBeast” was beastly (and Roc-ly, Aviar P&A-ly and Destroyer-ly), catching North Carolina local Michael Johannsen at the end of the week and besting Innova teammates Will Schusterick and Ricky Wysocki. Paul has had a great year on tour, with big wins at the Wintertime Open, Memorial and Masters Cup; along with top-5 finishes at the Gentlemen’s Club, St. Patrick’s Classic, Glass Blown Open, Kansas City Wide Open and total prize money (so far) of over $14,000. But being World Champ? How do you top that! Maybe with a signature disc? Hmmmm….
